But as<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/topics\/artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gartner\u2019s 2022 overview of AI for business<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> explains, we know that there are two major benefits to AI intervening in business processes: to improve working methods and to reduce labor-intensive tasks.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">So let\u2019s take a look at how generative CRM could help.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019ll give a quick explanation of what generative AI means in CRM. Generative AI uses existing data to produce \u201cunique artifacts that resemble but don\u2019t repeat the original data.\u201d As we have seen in 2022 and 2023, Generative AI has diverse applications in art, design, storytelling, problem-solving, and coding.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generative AI has shown the world the creative possibilities of technology today. But some of its most interesting applications are for <\/span><b>the most boring tasks<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generative AI can quickly help to automate tedious tasks in content creation, customer service, and data analysis. The results might not be show-stopping. After all, customers are getting a lot of announcements &#8211; without necessarily seeing much software to trial.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We know it will operate across sales, customer service, marketing, and IT, with the potential to improve Salesforce Flows.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ChatSpot from Hubspot&nbsp;<\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hubspot.com\/artificial-intelligence\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Hubspot\u2019s ChatSpot<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> promises to offer useful features from a simple chat prompt.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It will be able to draft emails, identify potential clients, perform lead management tasks, and support periodic reporting.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Perhaps not all of this is new. Watch this space!&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Generative AI and the Gartner Hype Cycle&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let\u2019s take a moment to step back from the hype around AI. Beware &#8211; you might just find that this bursts your AI bubble!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Undoubtedly, AI is an amazing innovation for the 2020s and beyond. But it is still very early days. Plenty of people are becoming wildly over-excited about generative AI. LinkedIn influencers are presenting themselves as \u201cChat GPT experts.\u201d And even if you\u2019re retired, you\u2019ve probably heard of what AI can do today!&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There\u2019s a lot of enthusiasm &#8211; but it can\u2019t last. Gartner\u2019s hype cycle helps us understand. In<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/articles\/what-s-new-in-artificial-intelligence-from-the-2022-gartner-hype-cycle\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">September 2022, a Gartner analysis<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> suggested that Generative AI would be just at the start of the \u201cpeak of inflated expectations.\u201d In 2023, we are still climbing to that peak.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We\u2019re still at a \u201cwait and see\u201d moment for the industry.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Tech innovators might just find themselves in the trough of disillusionment before they know it. With legal and ethical barriers to face, maybe this wouldn\u2019t be so bad.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This doesn\u2019t mean that generative AI is going to go away. The technology is genuinely useful: so hold tight and wait for the slope of enlightenment.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The challenges of generative CRM&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Applying a deeper level of AI to CRM sounds like a win-win situation. Bosses want to get their teams working as effectively as possible. And so far, generative AI has shown that it is easy to pick up, think about, and use. ChatGPT and its cousins can do some things very well. But many activities are better handled by a human. Sensitive emails, personalized outreach, and empathetic communication? Don\u2019t risk it with a bot.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ultimately there needs to be some risk management for every company. The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.gartner.com\/avivah-litan\/2021\/07\/30\/can-you-trust-your-ai-ai-governance-and-risk-management\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Gartner MOST framework <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">provides one tool. In the future, we may find more restrictive barriers to using generative AI.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Is Generative CRM the Future?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/sales\/trends\/future-of-sales\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> 2020 Gartner ebook<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> noted that very few sales departments can use data for \u201ceven rudimentary machine learning or artificial intelligence (AI).\u201d&nbsp; In 2023, this is less true: but year after year, AI will become increasingly available to generative CRM processes.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Most technology leaders are under pressure to introduce new solutions &#8211; as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkme.com\/blog\/infographic-visualizing-the-state-of-digital-adoption-2022-2023\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">WalkMe\u2019s 2022 report on the state of digital adoption<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> shows.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As the initial buzz of generative AI dies down, we see more and more niche applications &#8211; generated by companies of all sizes. We still haven\u2019t got a good understanding of the limitations of AI.
