Whether it was for the purpose of sharpening existing skills or adding on an industry-specific skill set, a highly competitive job market meant that platforms like LinkedIn Learning, Udemy, and Coursera engaged with an unprecedented number of users in 2020 and onwards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, following the pandemic, it has become a sort of norm to engage in this type of learning, both inside and outside of work hours. In many cases, workplaces will even sponsor the cost of courses as employers are increasingly interested in closing skill gaps for existing employees rather than hiring new staff or outsourcing contractors.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h1 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Cause and effect<\/h1>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weforum.org\/agenda\/2021\/01\/calling-global-upskilling-movement\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">World Economic Forum<\/a> has named upskilling as being crucial to the post-pandemic world, claiming it could boost the global GDP by $6.5 trillion and create 5.3 million jobs by 2030. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/markcohen1\/2019\/09\/03\/upskilling-why-it-might-be-the-most-important-word-in-the-legal-lexicon\/?sh=4b5ca70436a9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Forbes<\/a> has called it \u201ca tectonic shift in the workplace caused by technology\u201d, adding that this shift has been driven by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkme.com\/glossary\/digital-transformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digital transformation<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In our <a href=\"https:\/\/www.walkme.com\/content\/the-state-of-digital-adoption-2022\/?t=19&amp;sbtyp=Gated_branded&amp;integcamp=ALL&amp;3wsum=SO-DigitalAdoption-22-23&amp;obj=Lead_Creation&amp;camp=clevel_awa_SO-DigitalAdoption-22-23&amp;&amp;&amp;&amp;&amp;Dealdep=Product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2022 State of Digital Adoption report<\/a>, we found that 67% of enterprises are under \u201cincredible pressure\u201d to accelerate digital transformation.
